Wedding Music is a fun and beautiful piece of your wedding puzzle and big day planning. The Wedding Music you choose can be a difficult decision when looking for songs that represent your style or theme as a couple. You want Wedding Music that is as unique as you are. But how? How do we find the perfect assortment of songs that build our Wedding Day soundtrack? For that answer, we turned to Greg Strum of STRUMUSE, a professional quality project-level studio located in south Salem.
As a guest author on the blog this week, Greg is offering us some advice on How to Make Your Wedding Music as Unique as You Are, and how he and STRUMUSE can help you with that.
All of us want to commemorate the significant moments in our lives because we want to remember them exactly as they happened. Nearly all couples want something for after the event that will endure, be it photos or video. Adding music to go along with the images enhances the memories immeasurably. It becomes the soundtrack of your life.
Music and Memories
Most of us have had this experience: you hear a song on the radio, or during a TV show or a movie, and you are immediately transported in time. You are no longer in the present but back in that moment in time when you first connected with it you felt it in a physical sense then, and now that exact moment comes flooding back in vivid detail: where you were, what you were doing, and perhaps most importantly, who you were with. You can still feel now what you were feeling then, just as if it happened a few moments ago. Every time I hear “Saturday In The Park”, by the band Chicago, it’s a July afternoon in 1972.
This is the power of music. More than any of the other art forms, music engages us. It works its way inside us and touches our deepest feelings. All of a sudden, you’re tapping your foot. You’re singing along as loudly as you please. You start playing air guitar or air drums. Sometimes you get really crazy and just start dancing, because you can’t help it. Your mood has changed, and your whole outlook right along with it. What had been a not-so-great day just got a lot better, and all because you heard a piece of music that struck a familiar chord. That music became part of the fabric of your life, whether or not you were aware of it at the time.
How You Can Make Your Wedding Music Uniquely Yours
Make “Your Song” Truly Yours
Have a special arrangement made and recorded of “your song”. An example could be an instrumental version for solo piano (or any size ensemble) that you could use for the processional, during the ceremony, or for the recessional. Or, have it played for your first dance together. Do the same for the dances with parents, other family members, and the bridal party.
Have An Original Composition Created
Have some original music written that’s just for you, as I did this at my own wedding. I wrote a song for my wife that was performed during the ceremony by one of my wife’s closest childhood friends. I also did an arrangement for a six-piece string ensemble of the song “Edelweiss” that was played for our first dance. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house (either time).
Add Music to Accompany Slideshow or Video
Put together a slideshow of pictures of yourselves that is shown while guests are arriving at the reception venue, add a soundtrack. Select songs that are both personal and meaningful for both of you. This adds a whole new dimension that more deeply engages everyone present.
For a commemorative DVD, whether it’s a slideshow of wedding day photos or videography of the entire day, the addition of a custom soundtrack that has been created uniquely for you takes the project to the next level.
