Sequin Linens are a big deal right now in the wedding world. You can rent them for a pretty penny or you can buy them and sell them after your wedding. Either way, how terrible is it when one of them is ruined!? Never fear. I know how to clean them!

This linen is a GEG Linen, rentable to our clients for styling
and was drenched in dark soda. And I know what you’re thinking, how awful that a client would hurt my precious linen! But actually, it was all me… This was on their sweetheart table and I knocked it over. My own fault… so I hung my head and took it home after the wedding to sulk… I mean soak….

How to Clean Sequin Linens

What you need

Bathtub
Warm Water
Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover
Toothbrush

Step 1: Soaking

As you can see this linen is covered in dark soda, and it is dried on now. I took the whole thing to my bathtub. The sequins on these linens are pretty fragile and not sewn on very tight so tossing this linen in the washing machine is out of the question. It would look like if snowed in your machine afterward. So whatever you do, do not put it in a washing machine.

Fill your bathtub up with warm water until the linen can be completely covered and submerged. All you need to do is get the stain soaking. For me, it was a majority of the linen, so I dunked the whole thing.

Step 2: Spot Treating

After soaking for an hour or so {when the water gets cold} drain the tub water, take it out and hold it up. You may notice that most of the staining has gone away but there are still a few stubborn spots left. The thing to remember is that the sequins themselves are plastic, so they are not stained {maybe, based on your staining stuff… sauces should have soaked off} So, what is stained is the fabric the sequins are sewn to. In my linen it is taffeta.

So, spread out your soaked linen so you can see the spot you’re treating. With your Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover, dab on a bit and then use a toothbrush to gently scrub the linen under the sequins.

Step 3: Let it Sit

Let the scrubbed areas sit for a few minutes, less than 15. Some of your spots might go away with the scrubbing.

Step 4: Rinse

Fill your bathtub up again with warm water and dunk until the scrubbed areas are suds free. You may need to repeat Step 2-4 a few times for red stains.

Step 5: Dry

I flung mine up over the shower door so that the whole piece could be separated with no folds over itself. You also don’t want a pocket under the linen {like putting it on a table} so that the air can’t circulate. Hanging it outside would be a great idea too, so long as it won’t get dirty all over again by falling off a clothesline, etc.

And then you’re done!
