Flawless Wedding Day Skin Prep. Preparing your skin for perfect Makeup application Preparing for a wedding can be a daunting experience. The last thing you want to pop up on your big day is a huge zit or stress lines because you’ve spent the last 6-12 months worrying about the flower arrangements and color scheme! Here are my best tips for preparing your skin for your wedding day, and guess what? The added bonus is rest and relaxation with monthly facials! These tips will ensure that you’ll have a glowing complexion and perfect makeup all day long.

Flawless Wedding Day Skin Prep

Three months before your wedding is when you should start if you don’t already have a facial routine in place. Having a sound day and night skin care routine is ideal to have in place no matter if you’re preparing for a wedding or not, but if you’re not sure where to begin then you’re in the right place.

First things first, go find an esthetician you can trust with your skin and eyebrows. Schedule a skin analysis (also called a consult) and your first facial at least 3 months before your wedding day. Your esthetician will be able to tell you your skin type, how she will proceed in facials, what products you should be using when you get home and she will be able to get the best shape for your brows leading up to your wedding day. Make sure you book your facials and eyebrow waxing appointments at your first appointment to be sure you can get the time slot you need, if your esthetician is really good she will likely book up quickly!

Talking to your Esthetician

When talking to her about your home care I highly recommend asking about the following:

  • Makeup remover/cleanser
  • Toner
  • Exfoliant
  • Serums
  • Eye serum/cream
  • Day cream
  • Night cream
  • Masks

These are the basic products for creating a great daily and weekly regimen. If you know you won’t have time for a weekly mask make sure you’re at least exfoliating once per week and using a serum every night. This step will ensure you’re keeping your skin texture smooth and healthy in between your monthly facials.

A Second Facial

Two months before your wedding you should have your second facial done, your eyebrows again shaped and you’ll begin to see the results of your home care. Make sure during this process you’re drinking lots of water; your skin will show signs of aging and dehydration without it.

Bridal Makeup Trial

One month before the wedding you’re probably feeling the stress of getting everything finalized. Make sure, among the other things you’re finishing up, you make time for your Bridal Makeup Trial. It’s best to have a good idea of what you want to be done on your wedding day and have it done no more than 4 weeks before. This way you and your makeup artist are on the same page and everything runs smoothly when the big day comes around. You should also have your third facial at the beginning of this month and schedule your final facial 4 days before your wedding. This can be a ‘refresher’ rather than a full facial just to ensure you get that gorgeous wedding glow for the photos.

Two weeks before your wedding is when you get all your waxing done. Make sure your brows are shaped exactly how you want it, don’t worry about being picky. After all, it’s your wedding day! Having your waxing done at least 1-2 weeks before ensures your skin heals before your final facial but also before your makeup. Waxing can remove the first layer of skin which makes it easy for makeup to clog those pores and apply unevenly.

A Final Tip

My last tip is to always wear sunscreen! When you’re getting facials and waxing done you’re revealing new skin. This skin is so sensitive to sunlight and will burn in no time. Along with sunburn protection, wearing sunscreen everyday will also help prevent dark spots and signs of aging.

Have a happy, healthy, skin-loving day!
