Kids Table Ideas Spring is a great time to go shopping for the kids at your wedding because of all the toys, trinkets and candies that are out right now for Easter baskets! Kid Stations and Kid’s Activity Boxes are a part of Project Block 18, which is your Reception Entertainment that happens after cocktail hour and before dinner service. This Project is specifically designed to help with all the waiting, and waiting is very hard for children.

If you have already decided that there won’t be any children at your reception then you can head on back to the Main Project Block 18 Post and research some fun adult activities instead 😉

How to make Kid Stations at your Wedding

There are 3 options for establishing a Kids Station. You can either go big and make it a full-blown, Absolutely Awesome Kids Area. You can make it a small side table which would be a Kids’ Station they walk up to, or you can box up individual Activity Boxes per child. These individual boxes are called the Activity boxes, and I’ll get to those at the bottom of this post. When stocking any of the options I try to make it so that everything in the station/kit is useful and will take up “time” for the child since the whole point is to ease the waiting.

4 Goals for building Kid Stations:

When building any of the 3 options, I always apply my 4 main purpose goals:

Everything should be safe for kids to use on their own. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about choking or,  loud noises that would disrupt the reception. That eliminates any hand toys like clappers or pop guns. Also, anything that had a colored liquid which could spill, Finally, no tabletop games like Jacks which had a lot of little pieces.

2-Creativity & Movement

Our venue was a wide open space that was outdoor so it was the perfect place for a kid to explore. We set out disposable cameras for the kids (and adults) to use for their exploring along with a poem of items for them to I Spy. Order your own I Spy Tents Here! The cameras were definitely worth the expense (I bought 7) for keeping people busy during cocktail hour. Plus, I LOVE some of the pictures they caught since the photographers were with us taking our Mr. & Mrs. photos.

3-Table Time

In case their parents didn’t want them wondering around or they didn’t want to leave the shade I created these Doodle Pages. I then put in some colored pencils and threw in a few fun mini-games like silly glasses, Finger Traps, Magnifying Glasses and more!

4-Hold them over until Dinner

These kids had sat through our whole ceremony and now had to wait through a cocktail hour. So I knew that they would be hungry and probably thirsty. In each kit, I also included animal crackers, goldfish crackers and a water Capri Sun for them to have immediately.

These are the basic principles of Kids Station making for your wedding. Now from here, you can go bigger or smaller. This example is a Kids Station that kids essentially walk up to, grab something to do and go back to their table. Your other two options include an entire Kids’ Area where they go to stay for the reception. This area will have enough there to entertain them for awhile. Or you can go much smaller and provide individual Activity Boxes per child.
