3 Reasons to send a Save the Date before your Wedding. Why you need to send a Save the Date. Wedding Save the Date. Wedding Planning AdviceSo you’re having a summer wedding, or spring or fall, maybe even winter. The guest list will begin to build and you’ll remember all your favorite people whom you need to add. Wouldn’t it be great if you everyone’s schedules so that you knew who could make it before you even sent them an invitation?  Good news! You can! A Wedding Save the Date isn’t only for your guests, but it is a fantastic tool for you!

3 Reasons you want to send a Save the Date

I’m sure you can think of the obvious reason for a Save the Date.  You send it so your guests put it on their calendar and plan to do nothing else that day, 8 months from now. That is a good reason and good enough for most to send them. {Yes, 8 months is the usual time frame} But, there are some hidden reasons in there that are really useful for a bride!

Address Corrections

Christmas is truly the best time to toss out those Save the Date cards. If you or even your parents typically mail out holiday cards, this is a huge money saver. But also, I bet Mom has a gigantic Christmas card list! You can just copy that puppy right over into your Excel Spreadsheet. But what’s better than double dipping into postage fees is that if the card comes back to you, it will cost less than if it were your wedding invitation. Even if you’re mailing out a Save the Date as your Christmas card, you’re still saving money because a Save the Date is often much less expensive than a formal invitation. If one is wasted, you won’t feel the sting. Also a reminder to order extra Invitation outer envelopes! This way you can readdress invitations that come back.

Website Sharing

Your Save the Date is the perfect place to drop your Wedding Website link! The more information your guests have ahead of time the better. Another side note on Christmas… my husband and I did an engagement party right around Christmas and got gifts off our wedding registries because people already had the links so far in advance. It worked out pretty swell. Guests might also want to get a jump on hotel reservations if your wedding falls on a busy graduation weekend or holiday.

Early RSVP Declines

This is the real hidden gem… it is sort of a hidden benefit because you can knock A-list people off the list if you find out early enough that they have no chance of attending your wedding. The people with major conflicts, who you were counting on as a “for sure” will usually tell you right away that they can’t come. They might be out of the country, are in a wedding themselves or have grandma’s 100th birthday party {actual excuse of one of my who-have-been-invited A listers} Once you know, you can bump a B-list up and they never know they nearly missed the cut.

Choosing the right Save the Date for you

There are so many awesome and amazing Save the Date templates. However, do you choose? Instead of spending hours on Pinterest {although that can always be fun!} I’ve collected a few of my favorite Etsy Sellers here in a Treasury for you. If you’re new to Treasury shopping, or Etsy Shopping, in general, I’ll explain. A Treasury is sort of a catalog to showcase one gorgeous item from 16 different shops. You can click on the item below to see it’s detailed and maybe even order it. Or maybe that shop owner has something special just for you within their shop that I did not feature. If you’re on the hunt for a great Save the Date, or maybe even invitations try these 16 Shops first. I have also included in here some fun Save the Date props for engagement photography!
