Video- Project Block 19 Lecture.mp4

Oh, how we do love our guests… we do! But sometimes, with all the traditions changing they tend to not know how to “behave” at a wedding anymore… the wedding they attended last weekend allowed ceremony photography and now yours in unplugged… they’re so confused and don’t know the expectations… It truly isn’t their fault either. They need guidance. Let’s help them out so that everyone can have an amazing, and “proper” time. Think of it as Behavioral Signage, but we’ll call it, erh… Informational 😉

Building your Worksheet

Image:

There are loads of potential options here. I suggest keeping all your signage consistent and first writing out all the signs you NEED and then going out all at once to purchase/rent all of the appropriate sized frames or chalkboards. This is often a Project Block that could be put on the back burner a tiny bit until you know all the details of every Project and can make them all at once. Have yourself a sign making day/printing party. I also prefer everything to be the same font, ink color, and size. Consistency will make your wedding look more professional whereas freehand written signs tend to look last minute.

Ingredients:

Here is where you should list all the frames and or chalkboards by size and then appearance. You need to decide on a consistent wedding FONT so that, all of your signs are the same. If you are printing them on paper and framing them, or transferring them with chalk paper, your font needs to be consistent. Visit DaFont.com for some great choices you can download for free!

If you are doing chalk or writing on glass check out this Blog Post on How to Write Menu Signs Perfectly. The same concept can be applied to larger signs. You may want to add some of these materials to your ingredients list!

Prior to Wedding:

  1. BEHAVIORAL SIGNAGE
    • Take a mental walk through each Project Block you’ve already styled, thinking about signs you need for each
  2. Think about all the space in between Projects that guests might need directions.
  3. From P1 to P2 does there need to be a “keep going” sign? It isn’t a part of P1 or P2… it’s in between, a floater. So we give it an island, which is a P19. All of your P19’s will scatter throughout your venue.
  1. Use some post-it notes to number each or your signs by Project Block so that they can be easily dispersed on the wedding day. Or note on them, “Between P1 and P2”
  2. AESTHETICS
    • Choose a font for your wedding signage
  3. You can choose 3: A Title Font, Heading Font, and Text Font
  1. Determine how signs will be made: Wood, Chalkboard, Framed Prints, a Combination
  2. Draft all of your signs to coordinate in format before creating them
  3. Plan a production day to complete all of your signage or DIY Projects
  4. Label all signage with a post-it note for where it will live on your wedding day

Staging Materials:

Easels! Easels are ALWAYS overlooked and under-reserved. I am always sending my crew back to headquarters to grab an extra easel. You’ll also want to grab some command hook sticky pads, not the hooks, just the pads, to affix to the wall to keep framed pictures from blowing or being crooked.

Wedding Day Set Up:

Please pack Windex and paper towels in your Headquarters!
There is nothing that bothers me more on a heading day than dusty frame glass. {that’s not true, there are worse things…}

  • Check off when the Project is Done, Packed and Ready to Go
  • Check off when this Project is loaded into a Big Day vehicle
  • Assign the Person who is setting it up for you {if different than the Person in Charge}
  • Name your Person in Charge. He or she will then take over the Worksheet and check off the remaining Wedding Day Set Up boxes as they are completed.
